Hard drive speed vs size....
Why not both? Have you considered hybrid hard drives? e.g Seagate Momentus XT I prefer storage space over speed.

Yeah, I've been watching what's happening. Among them were a graphic designer, college students, a youth worker, a university graduate and a man signed up to join the army. Some gave non-London addresses. Eighteen were remanded in custody…

.iso file becomes corrupted constantly.
Have you tried a different usb? Are you installing it as a live cd? Have you tried installing it using UNetBootIn? I would try UNetBootIn first see if that works.
