    Hello,

ZoneAlarm is a free firewall that monitors incoming and outgoing connections from and to your computer. It's fairly easy to use, you don't get hundreds of messages alerting you when something happens, you will get a few to start with about programs you use, and then you can just choose allow access and remember the setting so you can choose programs that are allowed to run.

Click below to download ZoneAlarm from cnet (download.com):

I think Online Armor Personal is quite good too, tried ZA and it was a pain. Just my opinion though.
  • Not sure about this one but I still trust and go with my comodo
  • Try comodo firewall.
  • just curious, since i see windows firewalls mentioned. i have tested this theory and i am curious if you agree---windows firewall w/sp2 is a damn solid firewall?! people laugh, but i have never been able to see many flaws with it other than how it does not monitor outbound connections. how does one bypass it? it handles fragmentations fairly well, and it even uses stateful inspection. the only drawbacks i see with are that is is application based---sitting on the protected machine itself. how does one defeat a stateful firewall anyway?

I know a couple of people who use windows firewall, i personally never would but thats my preference. The thing with windows firewall now is with most good RATs [trojan], keyloggers or worms anti's are included and the most widely available is windows firewall. One simple registry change or whatever and thats your firewall down. Anti's are available for most firewalls such as kaspersky, norton, mcafee etc. I find the free less known ones are often better from that point of view.
  • would you agree, though, that for the most part, staeful firewalls are almost impenetrable (besides a mass-scale DoS attack which can hardly ever be stopped)? for it being an app-based firewall on a windows machine, i would say it does a stable job
