    Pros:
    - If its active it may attract new members

    Cons:
    - If people can already view what they need, they may not register

    Made them viewable, seeing if it will have an effect.

    Well, usually it's better if you keep some portions open to guests just to show that you have some quality content. In line with that, asking for membership just to see a certain thread kinda sucks. While it may be leeching off, usually it's better to be leeched off from than to be closed off. Certain threads being viewable by guests should be fine.
