Well I thought I'd put this to you guys and see your opinions. I've been pondering about upgrading my hard drive and i've eventually coughed up the cash for it. Anyway my question is, which do you prefer? more memory or faster speed?
I know 5400rpm is good for reading/writing large files but for I/O of a system drive a higher drive would perform better. Short of having a higher speeds drive for C: and then a 54k drive as D: (for user files) I'm wondering what you think would be best.
SSD // HDD combo sounds good to me. The reason I say not both is because usually very high speed and high capacity drives usually cost a large amount of cash.
i usually care more about size, but then 7200rpm drives are pretty cheap. i guess it depends on what you use the system for. if you edit lots of hd video (especially lossless quality), you're probably going to want a somewhat fast drive, or else tracking through the file will be hell. speed would also be useful for gaming due to the faster loading of resources, but even then i don't think a 5-7k rpm drive will be exactly unmanageable in those circumstances, i've gotten on pretty well with them.. that said, i'd probably be telling a different story had i owned a ssd ;)
