Hello iExploit community! I know I have not been the most active lately, but I plan to start being VERY active. I am getting tired of "small hacking" I really would like to advance to another level, seeing as this is what I would like to do for a career. So if you guys have any suggestions on where I should start to gain more knowledge please post here!
  • Welcome back. My suggestions are read read read! Pick a programming language like python or C and stick with it. Visit exploit-db and read some of the papers there and also visit shell-storm and read some papers there. Also, Hacking: The art of exploitation is a good read.

Absorbing knowledge is a great way to spend your time and your guaranteed to learn if your committed. What courses are you looking at taking?

Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures, is the name of the course. I am not sure where I am going to take this at, and I am not sure if there is anywhere I can, because of my age. I have emailed several of the course providers and ask them some questsions, and I am awaiting answers :D

I am also ordering these books:

Official Certified Ethical Hacker Review Guide : http://www.amazon.com/CEH-Official-Certified-Ethical-Hacker/dp/0782144373

    [url]Hacking for dummies : http://www.amazon.com/CEH-Official-Cert ... 0782144373

I am also hoping that I will be able to learn a lot here! I am very interested in coding, but have not found a language that keeps me interested. Chronic already suggested Python to me I tried that along time ago, and I kinda liked it, but I just do not think I found the right type of guide for me yet. If you guys know any good ones for learning python please suggest them!

    Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures

I was going to ask if you were doing that at university. It's the course title of the degree I'll hopefully doing.

the....for dummies series I wouldn't recommend, but that's a general opinion. I've not read them all so they may be ok. I just don't like the for dummies and learn how to <piss> in 24hours series. Tell me how anyone can learn python/c/c++ etc in 24hours. Anyway end of rant :P

I hope you've got deep pockets if you want to apply for INFOSEC certification, especially the CEH. Unfortunately I can't help you with Python, chroniccommand may be able to help you more with it.

Abertay is where it's at :D They started the course in the UK. They took a team of students to a recent international wargame in France I believe.

I must disagree with the for dummies comment. Sure, the for dummies series is basic but no it is not intended to teach you anything in 24 hours. I've been reading Python for dummies since Christmas and I must say it's a pretty good book for getting the basics and some more advanced stuff down. Sure it's nothing advanced but good for "getting your feet wet" as some may say.

Yeah I was talking about some of the dummies series lacking in content that i'd read. They weren't programming related but computing in general and other non-computing subjects, and as I said i've not read them all so my opinion may be wrong. The "learn in 24hrs" thing is a different set of ebooks/books.
