Ive always used Gnome but i switched to kde a few weeks ago its really different so you might need a while to adapt yourself to the change. But id go with KDE

Gnome is nice if you highly customise, however go with KDE. Sometimes unstable, but alot more light on the system.

I used KDE up until version 4.0, after that is became too bloated for my taste. Then I moved through the usual alternatives: Xfce4, Fluxbox, Blackbox, Openbox, Gnome, Enlightenment, etc. I finally settled on XMonad. Xmonad is a tiling WM that is completely keyboard driven. That is not to say you cannot use the mouse but the window functions are controlled via the keyboard. This suites my needs since I have multiple monitors and it is easier to manage windows this way. If it were only a choice between Gnome or KDE, I would probably pick Gnome because it seems less bloated to me. This is not because my machine is underpowered (i5/8gb ram), I just prefer lighter environments.

I use KDE but only because I can't get xmonad, awesome or i3 to work correctly right now :/

Can't be bothered hunting round for solutions/answers for other distro's atm. I'll try and get gentoo or arch loaded at some point as I want a decent distro. (sorry ubuntu fans).

I apparently can't get awesome to work correctly, I'm either gonna stick with KDE or play around with i3 and/or fluxbox.

Thought you had awesome running on your last install? :S I'd get rid of KDE and go with fluxbox mate, knowing you you'd end up changing anyway :P

Well that was my previous install. This new install is having problems for some reason :/

I've been playing around with fluxbox for a bit getting it set up. I may keep it depending on if I can get urxvt to look nicer. Right now I need to use Konsole because urxvt is hard to see with my current config.

Yes I'm aware I need to fix the background so it's scaled for the entire screen. No idea how to though. Eh I'll google and figure it out.

I doens't work I tried some wep attacks, it doesn't include the patched drivers for injection. Completely useless I stick with Backtrack has much better tools.
