What Linux OS will Run on 300MHZ 128+64mb Ram? - Computing

Very minimal installation, i think Deb needs 256 ram so it may struggle there , any ideas?

i've got bt4 final on a pentium 3 laptop ~300mb ram, it's an old thinkpad x22 incase you want to lookup the processor. Runs quite well.

Damn Small is small enough and smart enough to do the following things:
Boot from a business card CD as a live linux distribution (LiveCD)
Boot from a USB pen drive
Boot from within a host operating system (that's right, it can run *inside* Windows)
Run very nicely from an IDE Compact Flash drive via a method we call "frugal install"
Transform into a Debian OS with a traditional hard drive install
Run light enough to power a 486DX with 16MB of Ram
Run fully in RAM with as little as 128MB (you will be amazed at how fast your computer can be!)
Modularly grow -- DSL is highly extendable without the need to customize

I think this might do the trick for you Xinapse. It sounds promising, and it claims to fit your requirements! I've heard in the past from various people that it's a pretty nice distro. Worthless if you're trying to get a big project done though.

Damnsmalllinux may do the trick. But I think another really good choice would be a BSD box. OpenBSD is probably your best bet and it's the most secure.

I wwanna learn bsd in a vm first otherwise il probably just brick my computer from what ive heard about how hard bsd is.
