    - I will be running linux, (probs Ubuntu) so it doesnt need to include a Windows 7 subscription.
    - It needs to be pretty powerful as i will be doing a lot of development, programming and probably need a few virtual boxes
    - I will have external harddrive so harddisk space isnt everything
    - NOT A MAC
    - Very reliable

    Thank guys

How much do you have to spend?

If money is no object then look at the T series in the professional lenovo-thinkpad range. I bought the sl510 from lenovo for Uni today, can't wait for it to turn up. They are very reliable computers. A second hand T series thinkpad will last you a lifetime still.

EDIT: They also have good compatibility with linux I believe.

Nice, wish mine would have paid. Would have gone for a higher model XD.

Lenovo laptop or the business dell laptops look good, however the latitudes are a ripoff of thinkpads.

was approved at one of the best universities in germany :)

At the beginning I thought to study computer science(bachelor) and then to make my Master at NetworkSecurity. But I am better in the electrical-area, so I hope it will not be so hard for me :P
