Do you think it is needed? As they could easily fit into the categories we have such as Linux Security > Tutorials for example. Plus at the moment there isnt a lot of difference between some of the tutorials and papers.

Should we keep it/get rid of it?

Or assign a set of rules to it

What do you think. Im 50/50 atm

  • I like the idea of papers. Papers differ from tutorials as they are usually longer, more informative and don't just tell you step by step what to do, like a tutorial. Just my opinion on things.

In all honesty I see them as oversized tutorial, it could quite easily be got rid of and the other tutorial sections would go through the roof.

True, maybe we should say that it should be a certain length or something

I see a paper as a report with references, professional layout etc... not too sure whether I've got them right though lol

Alot of the paper's i've seen posted i'd say were detailed tutorials. Your the founder Xin if you say yours are papers then they are lol. Without singling mandi out (I just concentrate more on networking so his paper's are relevant and a good read) the below are examples of what I'd class as paper's. How to use or do something is surely a tutorial? The theory behind it or an investigative report would be a paper...?

Moved a couple out that werent papers, i think we need a 'General Hacking Discussions' or 'General Security' forum, as a lot of them are hard to place. Although i dont think we would have alot of content for that section so probs not atm

In my opinion a tutorial will get anybody with a bit of knowlegde to the objective of the tutorial (meaning, if the tutorial says: SQL Injection tutorial, 90% of chances you will be able to complete an SQL injection like described in the tut). But that doesn't mean you fully understand the concept of a SQLi, so a paper would explain all this in a way that after you are done reading, you can figure out how to do an SQLi (on your own) with several methods.

Btw, I would place a general hacking discussions forum ;)
Or a hacking project forum, where we can discuss our hacks (like if we get stuck at some point, we can ask for help)

You can already ask for help in any of the relevant sections such as web app or network security
