"Experience w/ CDP/etc"?
  • anyone on here been on a network where active CDP packets were being passed? i understand they are only local to a subnet and will not be forwarded by a router, but i have yet to ever see this protocol in action. what type of network would i see this in?

on a related note, who here has managed any type of network where OSPF/EIGRP packets were being produced? i have already run across standard RIP/2 packet traffic before

lastly, has anyone on here ever been on a Token Ring or FDDI network and are they still in use today?

I've 'been' on a token ring network, to be honest I hated the people who ran the company. System security/hardware upgrades/software updates meant nothing to them. This was a long time ago though.

Just curious but I'm guessing you come from a network admin/analyst background?
  • i have studied internetworking for over 10 years simply because it fascinates me. i learned alot of stuff on my own but my coding skills are not really up to pare, i admit that. i am mainly into the realm of pen testing and auditting and securing networks. i also like to play with tools/protocols/concepts that are with a greater degree of difficulty as far as having rhe knowledge about them. that's just me. i don't like to play with simple stuff like basic port scanners, blah

i got into working with advanced protocols after delving into heavy CISCO material. the rest just comes natually as far as working with the tools to interact w/ such

i still have yet to ever see a Token Ring network. i really want to see an ATM network sometime!

i am currently in school for network security/admin (i'd like to have a CCDP someday)
