A few tools I'm curious about
  • before i came here, i was a member of the forum for MATRIUX. i wanted to know if any of you have tried that and do you prefer it over Backtrack?

i also would like to know how many of you have dabbled with the tool RING and the concept of TCP retransmission timeouts (RTO) for OS fingerprinting

lastly (i know mandi has), how many have worked with the route attack suite IRPAS/VIPPR and the route injection tool LOKI (most elite damn thing ever created!)

Never heard of MATRIUX. But BackTrack is pretty damn good if you ask me.

MATRIUX is just another security distro for pen testing i think....
  • since it is another related topic about different OSs/tools, i'll post here, which do you prefer for automated pen testing?

    CANVAS?
    OPEN VMS
    METASPLOIT
    NESSUS
    NMAP (NSE scripts)

for me, openVMS seems to have the most extensive database

  • MATRIUX is fairly new from what i understand. it is simliar to Backtrack in my opinion. i like the fact that with MATRIUX, you can download new tools and expand the given arsenal. it also includes the more obscure utilities out there that some live distros don't offer (like IRPAS suite)
  • so none of you have used IRPAS/VIPPR that phenoelit offers? LOKI? not even RING (which i think is now deprectaed anyway)

(i will mention this once again---the LOKI program is the most devestating tool i think out there as far as taking control of a network)
