Dont use backtrack as your main OS, i would just use it in a VM, for your main OS use ubuntu or mint as there nice and easy

Not specifically you OP but i'm beginning to get irritated by people using BT as a full option for a desktop. It was designed to be and always will be a "Live Disk" which can be installed and can also be transferred to a USB hence Live USB.

Xin is perfectly right, if you want a Linux desktop then chooce ubuntu or mint. The mint team have brought out a KDE and Fluxbox version I believe so it's well worth checking out. 99% of programs used in backtrack can be installed to either ubuntu or mint. I have most installed and no problems at all. If I need BT I get my Live SD card and use my netbook.

So no hard feeling but i'd advise another 'flavour' of linux :)
